STORY part 2/2:
So we are sweating bullets now as we are arriving to the train stop with less than 60 seconds left to catch the final train down to Kyoto. Our connecting train pulls into the stop, and the doors open. Across the station I see another train with the doors open, getting ready to depart. Perfect!! Without a second thought, I yell at my buddies that we need to run and catch the train before it leaves in 30 seconds. We sprint across the station with our bags and dive into the train. Almost immediately after, the doors close and we start moving. To Nagoya. Not Kyoto. We are on the wrong goddamn train.
Now this is pretty embarrassing as I knew it was my fault for leading the charge into the wrong train. I felt pretty terrible, and one of the other guys was pissed af at me. Also, it didn’t help that during this train ride to the wrong city, @viraj .desai1996 had a rando sitting diagonally behind him flick a booger onto his arm. Anyways, we are scheduled to now arrive at Nagoya pretty late in the night, with absolutely 0 public transport options to Kyoto until the morning. I quickly search around online and am luckily able to find a relatively cheap motel close to the station that has a three twin bed room for us to stay in. We get off the train, I try making some jokes to lighten up the mood but it’s tough when you’re the one that f’ed up. What was pretty crazy though was the insane amount of drunk and/or passed out businessmen at the Nagoya station. It was a Friday night, but even so, there were literally dozens of men dressed in full suits, briefcases in hand, either stumbling around or literally asleep on the ground. It was insane. Probably has to do with the ridiculous work culture in Japan, which is unfortunate. Anyways, to wrap this up, our motel smelled of cigarettes but came with a complimentary 5/10 breakfast (but it was free so that boosts to 8/10), and we woke up at 6 am the next day to catch one of the first trains to Kyoto. Cam finally isn’t pissed at me anymore and at Kyoto we hike around 15 miles around the city and meet with another group and stay out that night until like 4am. So alls well that ends well.
