David Robert Mitchell’s “Under The Silver Lake”(2018). Our Rating-7.8/10 This film is Mitchell’s follow up to his horror masterpiece “It Follows”. He takes a very different route with this mystery thriller starring Andrew Garfield. Garfield plays a man named Sam who meets a girl one night and when he goes to see her the next day, she’s gone and her apartment is empty. It’s like she vanished. He then goes on a wild journey to try to uncover the mystery and that leads him to things that are unexplainable. This film premiered at Cannes two years ago and it had very divided reviews. It ended up receiving mostly negative but I wouldn’t pay much attention because this film is very enjoyable and insists on having your full attention the entire movie. This movie will make your head spin. I have no idea how Mitchell wrote the script for this because of how complex it is. Garfield takes on an unfamiliar role and nails it. I feel like this film represents themes that could be actually happening in some places. It’s funny, disturbing and horrifying and will make you say “what the fuck” by the end of it. Watch it.
