When I was in 8th grade, I sprained my ankle in our first basketball game of the season. It was a bad sprain and I was on crutches for three long months, and made it back for the final game (they won every game without me, I came back and we lost, but that's another story). Crutches suck, but sometimes they are necessary to get us back to 100%. But, what would happen if we thought we needed the crutches, forever? In order to continue to just get around? That would really suck, literally and figuratively. We would never bravely give up the crutches! It would be a permanent handicap!
We all know people and situations like this, where we or they believe they need something as a crutch, and they end up relying on it to be able to get around... and it ends up making them weaker in the long run.
There are a couple cool things, though, that we get to remember:
1. Neuroplasticity is a real thing. Our brain is constantly rewiring itself based on our experiences - growth/healing mindset is #true .
1a. What we believe to be true impacts how we experience life, which then further rewires our brain.
1b. Using something to improve our experience can rewire our brain to be able to have that positive experience without the support especially if we don't believe we need it in order to do it.
Instead of a crutch, it becomes a ladder.
That's the secret: look at ways to level up, not thinking you *need* it, but rather you *get* it. If you don't have it, you are still fine, and will find another way. But by using enhancements, we can literally rewire our brain to have the heightened capacity next time, without the ladder.
This applies to using tech, data, nootropics, buddies, anything really!
