Busy work week and I’m feeling a bit under the weather from really struggling to get restful sleep. Cooking comforting dishes make me the happiest especially when they’re fairly easy to make.
The name of this dish directly translates to Grandma’s braised meat #外婆红烧肉. Braising fluid is actually Chinese beer instead of water. Turned out really good and I added some tofu to it too since the sauce is so flavourful. I remember having an exceptional version of this when I was in Shanghai and they had eggs in it too but I don’t like to peel egg shells of hard boiled eggs so I skipped it this time😅
No real recipe too since so many of you have asked! Just the usual... star anise, peppercorn, bay leaf, ginger, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and sugar. Adjust to your liking ❤️
